How To Register A Business Name In Nigeria

Dear business owner,

It is no longer news that you can register your Business Name by yourself at the Corporate Affairs Commission without the services of a lawyer. There are basically two common options to consider. You can either register it as a Business Name or Incorporate a Limited Liability Company with the CAC.

To register a Business Name, all you have to do is follow these easy steps below;

  1. You need to check if your proposed business or company name is available, you can do this by going to the CAC website and filling the data form to check for the availability.
  2. Once the availability of the name has been confirmed, you can then proceed to the CAC registration portal with the availability code to start the process by filling all the necessary forms on the Company Registration Portal.
  3. You will then be asked to pay filing fees.
  4. After paying the fees, you will then upload the signed forms, valid identification cards of all proprietors and an evidence of payment of filing fees.
  5. Finally, you submit the original copies of the uploaded documents to the CAC office you selected for collection in exchange for your certificate and the certified true copies of the documents.

The process is very simple and straightforward. Registering your business name will give your business legitimacy and  reputation with customers, provide legal liability protection, easy access to loans to loans and investors, and also gives your business a structure.
